What are Carrier oils
Carrier oil, also known as base oil or vegetable oil, is used to dilute essential oils and absolutes before they are applied to the skin. They are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Carrier oils do not contain a concentrated aroma, unlike essential oils, nor do they evaporate like them.
When using essential oils, you must dilute these before they are used on the skin. This is why carriers oils are so important.  You can read all about using Carrier Oils to make homemade natural skin care cleansers, creams, lotions and more here.

The general gist is say you would like to make an eye serum. You'd take about 10-15 drops of your essential oils and mix them with about 2 tablespoons of a carrier oil of your choice. You'll always use more of the carrier oil. You can also mix 2 or 3 of a carrier oil with essential oils. The mixers are limitless. Essential oils will only make up about 0.75% to 1.5% of your formula. Read all about using Essential Oil to make homemade skin care products. Below are great carrier oils for aging, mature skin.
